America and Ancient Rome have many things in common. We both have a lot of culture, we both live[d] in a Republic, and America has gained many ideas from Ancient Roman history. Our founding fathers wanted to make America very similar to Rome and so they took many parts from Roman history that they liked and instituted it into our constitution. In America today we need to look at Roman history and see what went right and what went wrong. Since America is so similar to Rome we should learn about the mistakes that Rome made that led to the fall of it’s empire because we do not want to fall too.
Ancient Rome was the first real Republic in history and they laid a foundation that the United States would end up following eventually. Rome started a separation of powers when they created the 3 Branches of Government which included 2 consuls, a senate, and an assembly. Today the United States has a similar 3 Branch Government and it includes the legislative branch, the executive branch, and the judicial branch. Rome started the separation of powers among the 3 branches because they did not want one person to have too much power since that is how the Etruscans, an Italian tribe, ruled them for so long. He thought that it would be easier to lead but it just created more problems for the Romans. People would argue over who should be the leader and it caused a lot of friction. Rome started to decline and they eventually were conquered and the Roman Empire came to an end. America is similar to Rome because we also can not agree on a leader and so we have a lot of friction within our country. If the United States continues on the same path as Rome then there is a chance that the United States could come to an end. America needs to agree on a leader and not fight if they do not get the leader they were hoping for. If we can not agree then there is a chance that we can fall like
