There are many different types of communication that people use in daily life. I believe that to create a smooth relationship, interpersonal communication (Alder, Rosenfeld, Proctor II, 2013, pp. 15-19) is one of the important aspects of communication that we should be familiar with. Comm 218 was only a 5-week course, but through this course I have learned a great deal of different communication styles. This communication class always reminded me of my communication style and the value of communication.

One day, she said “it seems you didn’t listen to what I told you before. You should do what I said, that’s a better way to solve the problem”. That conversation made me feel annoyed. It also helps us with self-awareness: what parts of ourselves are open, blind, hidden, and unknown. The other thing is relational maintenance (Adler, Rosenfeld, & Proctor, 2013, pp. 287-295). 10 stages of a relational communication model describe the relationship between friends, partners, families, etc. Based on the model, I can better understand and develop relationships, such as what I should do to achieve relational maintenance part from coming together part.
Looking back through this course, I realized that interpersonal communication skills have a powerful effect on my future behavior. I learned that revealing myself to others, perceiving others, and communicate with others effectively have beneficial effects on the relationship. I still need to improve my communication skills. I’m also looking forward to utilizing the abilities acquired through interpersonal communication class in the

For the first major assignment for Professor Julia Green’s Communication 211 for Spring 2016, I partnered with classmates Lori Rainey and Sarah Beattie to “analyze how the different forms of communication yield different results when it comes to communicating” (Green, Week 4 - Major Assignment 1: Blog). As an example, I routinely forget my cell…

You are in class one day when the teacher announces a new assignment: students are to research and give an informative speech about any topic of their choosing. As the student, imagine that you are terrified to not only present the speech in front of your entire class, but to have to go through the process of picking a topic, researching it, organizing your speech, and practicing it as well. At the beginning of my communication class, this was how I felt about producing and giving speeches. I was nervous to talk in front of the class because I have always been very shy and have suffered from extreme speech apprehension. I also dreaded picking a topic and organizing my speeches as well, since I could never make up my mind and I was never good…
