In the dreaded, longing, years of 1861-1865. The civil war was taken place at. This war was mainly fought between the north and the south. In the declaration of independence it says that “all men are created equal” and that the united states was the “land of the free”. By the declaration of independence you are probably like “yeah if it says it must be true” but is it really? Is it really land of the free? Is every man really created equal? I believe that these words are not true, i believe that not every man was created “equal”, and that the land was not just the land of the “free”. Here are some reasons why. African americans are one thing that people like to take over. Were they created “equal”, no they were not, and here's my reasons behind why they were not. Before the war started, congress said that african americans would be able to fight in the war, 186,000 african americans enlisted in the union army. The other 30,000 joined the union navy. This might seem like they are letting them have equal freedom and the same stuff everyone else gets. But no, just you wait. African americans had very little training, poor equipment, and even less payment, then the white soldiers did. These african americans that risked their own life of getting killed, or enslaved if captured, fought with courage, and teamwork. To save the union and end slavery, forever. But they might have seemed like they had freedom fighting in the war, but tell me know did they? I am bringing this back to the african americans sorta, but african americans could not go to FL, TX, VA, AL and etc. because they could be captured. They left their homes, their friends, they sometimes even had to leave their loved ones even though they never wanted to. So it wasnt “land of the free” it was the land of if you placed a foot on the state, you could be captured or dead, place. But the union did get some states so they weren’t slave states, and from our point of view know in 2018 we can see that they did succeed, and that most places in the world are “land of the free” . My last and finale argument is not that argumentative but i feel like it is. Women's rights during this war. In the passage that i have used to find out about this, it states that over 400 women disguised themselves as men and fought in the union, and confederate armies, during the war. But most women didn't want to risk there life so they helped with taking care of sick, and injured soldiers. This argument did not really hit the “all men are created equal” or “land of the free”.
