I’m aware being a Christian in America doesn’t always mean I’ll be easy but, as citizens, it is necessary to recognize that everyone who’s not Christian is at a disadvantage. Analyzing and reflecting on the Christian Privilege topic helped become more aware of everyone’s beliefs and my surroundings .To value religious freedom means to do something about it when necessary. I might not be able to do immediate change to the country but I can start amongst my friends and colleagues. This topic in particular allowed me to become more reflective on my surroundings. It made me consider what diversity really means to me. Do I understand what diversity is? Are my actions towards others demonstrating my acceptance and encouragement for diversity? What do I still need to learn? These are questions that I asked myself. There is still much I can learn to increase my understanding and acceptance of the diversity around me. The workforce typically includes those that are bisexual, gay, lesbian, transgender, old/young, people with disability, women, minorities and people with differencing religious beliefs. One of the strategies C. Smith outlined, “ Develop Consciousness, Theory Values” can have an impact when addressing issues. C Smith said it best, “People learn from their own experience.” Meeting and hearing from those who are facing adversity can sparks curiosity and creäte motivation for change. We can also combine this strategy with “Start where people are at”. This strategy takes nothing but listening and being open. If you are not open about what is being said, thoughts of judgment and negativity will consume you. It’ll become challenging to actually listen to and empathize with the other person. Lastly, one of the strategies that I favor is “Go broader and deeper”. In order for change to come about, more and more people need to be conscious of the movement. Talking is simply not sufficient. Using different methods such as asking speakers to come out, forming slogans, using the media as an outlet are all ways to attract new individuals to take part in a
