The writer introduces Peggy in the beginning of the story and describes her as a young woman that lives in a small apartment in the city and that she is in a relationship with Ken. “Ken came close to her for the first time last summer.” They have not been in a relationship for very long, according to Peggy; they met “last summer.” In the story, the author uses a lot of imagery to get the clear picture of the crash that Ken and Peggy are involved in; the five senses are use to get an enhanced image. The events in the beginning of the story, is her listening to the radio and what is going on outside. “Cabs honked to each other at corners and followed the fire engines and ambulances. Bicycles rode by making that special titter and thrill of gears.” She finds out that is going to rain and that she might go to the country with her boyfriend Ken to spend the weekend. “Well, rain in the country was better than rain in the city; it would mean a different type of weekend: cozy, fires, snacks, catching up on reading.” With that in mind, she was all set, to begin her trip. Finding out that they were departing tomorrow for the trip, she was excited and was not able to sleep, with that in mind she was “Boiling water for a starter cup of coffee.” and just enjoying the sun before the rain, would come in.
