Gambling In China Essay

Unlike other Asian American communities, which usually struggles with poverty and unemployment, Chinese international students in America is one of the extremely unique groups. They tend to come from wealthy families and the number of these Chinese international students in the US is increasing exponentially every year. However, the community does face some issues that could potentially affect this huge population in the US. For instance, the Chinese love to gamble so much that it had been a part of the orient culture for thousands of years. While establishment such as casinos are illegal in main land China, many international students are spoiled by the opportunities they have in the US to engage in gambling. Life transition difficulties include several issues such as language barriers, loneliness, and the challenges a completely different education system presents. In her journal, Wendy points out that almost all overseas students will encounter periods of a period of time during which they feel alienated from the native students; their face variances in their grades; and they are unable to communicate with people they trust. Many of the participant in Li’s research successfully battle over the addiction through intervention and self-control. As a result, many of them eventually became “community member” and “active learner” (Li). Furthermore, the society could also provide help for these trouble teenagers. For instance, a number of cases mentioned in the journals involve underage casino visits and environments where casinos are one of the only leisure places. Therefore, we should focus on building a healthier community for those who are vulnerable to lure of gambling and strengthen the supervision to eliminate underage
