What is China’s water scarcity? China has recently gone through a period of time with a lack of water. But the real mystery is what has caused the water scarcity? Let's discuss. Since China has recently gone into a water scarcity, a lot of problems have now rose such as having some of its farmable land not having water which can cause famine. There are three main causes or factors of China’s water scarcity crisis: Global Warming, Population Growth/Urbanization, and Industrialization. Of all these, the biggest driver is Industrialization.
One appropriate reason for China’s water shortage is Global Warming. Global warming is causing the Qinghai-Tibet plateau glaciers’ to melting about 7% per year. ( Doc. A ). This is very critical because people depend on the glaciers’ melting water during dry seasons.( Doc. A ). Since the glaciers are slowly going away, their will be less and less water during dry season which contributes to water shortage. The increase population causes increase demand for meat and alcohol. ( Doc. B ). In order to make these products it needs to have a great deal of water. ( Doc. B ). So basically, the increase of population makes more water consuming and there will be less water for other people and less water for other purposes.
