Richard Simmons states that, “children [who] are obese, either have or [are] being threatened by diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and not socially adjusting properly to others because of a lack of fitness.” He explains that not being active leads to health problems caused by obesity. Childhood obesity is a vast problem in the United States but it is also a rising issue around the globe. Childhood obesity has deep roots in the type of lifestyle the kid lives in, which produces negative effects on the child socially, medically, and emotionally.
The way kids live their lives cause them to be obese and it affects them socially. Technology has begun to take away the importance of exercise. Nowadays, technology has become a necessity to contact family and friends. In addition, it is needed for work and school. Everyone is exposed to technology all day long in an American lifestyle whether it be computers, smartphones, television, or games. According to an article by CNN, Kids spend nine hours a day watching Netflix, television, playing games, and using other technology, which demotivates children from being physically active since they can do so much sitting around. Mass media influences and targets kids toward candy and junk food by advertising all the new foods they come out with. Companies over refine the foods, so it is mostly fat, carbs, and sugar. Furthermore, junk foods are cheaper than vegetables and healthy foods, so people tend to buy what saves them…
