Child labour in our day and age makes my blood boil, whether it is happening on our country’s doorstep or fellow nations it’s disgusting. There are different reasons presented to us to try convince us that it makes this seem legitimate, some people even believe them. The ability for families and children to access compulsory and free education is very low, leaving them with the only option of working for their whole lives. Can you imagine waking up every day for your whole life, going to work in a small unventilated room with dozens of children all trying to complete their own jobs? Not to mention be expected to work 16 hours each day for minimal if any income?
Unfortunately in these developing countries the legal systems don’t have the ability to properly protect the interests and safety of their citizens, and often there are many grey areas of the laws which can allow child exploitation. In Australia we have laws that regulate the protection of our children, ensuring that school-aged children abstain from completing tasks that could harm their health and safety and also limit the hours of work that can be completed without compromising their basic child
