Operations Division history
Acting arrangements was put in place for Senior Firefighters and Firefighters who have completed the in house Platoon Officer development course. These staff members were not only given the Station Commander rank, but received full authority In terms of the Delegation of powers as vested in the Chief Fire Officer under Section 19 of the Fire Brigade Services Act, 99 of 1987; and in terms of Section 8 of the Municipal Fire Services Bylaws.
Selection Criteria
The discussion between yourself and the Director: Community Services led that the candidate should be selected based on;
a) amount of service in the Fire Department in general
b) The amount of service in the BVM
c) The Operational Qualifications
d) Operational experience in the BVM

This will allow us the scope to learn and enhance our skills should the opportunity arise for rank promotion or when the position is advertised. There is also the acting allowance that S/C Pretorius is getting, something that should be considered for other officers to also get. Staff morale is low and I believe will be boosted should you choose to allow other officers to act in the capacity of Deputy
