He finds the Rockette’s Christmas stage show ridiculous and superficial even though it reminds him of how him and Allie used to love the kettledrum player
Holden says he could never be in the military
Luce says Holden needs psychoanalysis when Holden keeps asking about sex
Holden gets drunk and ends up calling Sally which angers her and her grandmother

What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff—I mean if they’re running and they don’t look where they’re going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That’s all I’d do all day. I’d just be the catcher in the rye and all” (Salinger, 1991, p. 173). This is an important quote since it shows how Holden wants to protect children and their innocence which also ties to the way he looks out for Phoebe. I think this quote is also the significance for the title and I believe it is a connection the reader can make between the title and the quote to understand that the title is Holden’s unrealistic dream. I think it shows his character as protective and caring, unlike how he may appear in other parts of the book.
What do you think will happen to the character in the next reading chunk? What do you expect to learn about him/her next?
I expect to learn more about Holden and Phoebe’s visit, and how Phoebe will react to Holden telling her he needs to leave for New York. I think something interesting may happen that will change the plot, so I am looking forward to keep reading to find out. Identify an important setting or minor character in this reading chunk.
