Our Changing Welfare System: Mississippi Department of Human Services Isaiah 41:17 (King James Version) states,” When the poor and the needy seek water, and there are none, and their tongue failed for thirst, I the Lord will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.” God loves everybody, and he recognized that some of his children would be at a disadvantage; therefore he recognizes the poor and made provision for their wellbeing. God commanded that his people help the needy. Jeremiah 22:3 (King James Version) said,” Thus saith the Lord; execute ye judgment and righteousness, and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor: and do no wrong, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent …show more content…
The main focuses of this agency are to protect vulnerable individuals and promote and maintain self sufficiency.
Division of Youth Services The Division of Youth Services (DYS) service juveniles that have been adjudicated delinquent by the MS Youth Courts. The agency provides counseling, education, rehabilitation, supervised probation and treatment services. The agency has community services programs, Adolescent offender Program, Therapeutic Group Home, and Institutional Programs (Annual Report, www.mdhs.state.ms.us). Over time, there has been a misconception that welfare is only for the poor only. This is false!
