It’s been said that change is hard…get over it. In today’s environment companies need to be able to stay fluid, adapt, and change. This includes the company’s willingness to modify the culture when a gap exists from where the company is to where it wants to be. In 2013 University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) had to complete a culture overhaul. UCH was in a rut that was developed by running the hospital like a business instead of a complete healthcare provider. UCH had to look at its current culture and perform a culture shift; the new culture not only affected the business but also had an impact on the employees within UCH.

Culture Shift Analysis After evaluating the increased revenue, public/patient view, and employee contentment one could argue that the culture shift greatly improved UCH as a company. The steps of evaluating patient feedback and improving employee programs made great strides in improving the image of the company. An improved company culture helps lead to more effective employees and continued company success (Simeon, 2010). Even though UCH has made tremendous paces forward there is always more to complete. A company cannot become complacent and no longer continue to improve.
Other Companies Utilizing UCH Culture Shift Beyond the success of UCH other hospitals have the opportunity to learn from UCH’s achievements. As stated earlier there are over 5000 hospitals registered in the U.S. and all of them are striving to be the best. UCH has discovered that a major piece of its success relies on the corporate culture. When employees believe in the culture and want to advance the company’s goals they are more likely to exemplify everything the company stands for and wants (Simeon, 2010).
