Is it really possible for people to change? In Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol, the thought of people changing their ways for the better is expressed, throughout this story. In this novella Scrooge, the protagonist, is a dynamic character, and his grand change is from the doing of three ghosts. Scrooge evolved and became a generous person by overcoming greed. He was very greedy. A man asked him if he would like to donate to the poor, and Scrooge replied no, in the rudest manner possible. "'Are there no prisons?'... 'And the Union work houses.' 'I help to support the establishments I have mentioned-they cost enough.' 'Many can't go there; and many would rather die!' 'They had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.' He was originally extremely harsh to Cratchit and his nephew, who was his only family left. He would push away his nephew, Fred, in an extremely rude manner."'Good afternoon,' said Scrooge. 'I want nothing from you; I ask nothing of you; why cannot we be friends?' 'Good afternoon,' said Scrooge."(4)He was also extraordinarily cruel to Cratchit, Scrooge wouldn't even allow Cratchit to put more coal in his fire. Scrooge then was taken by the ghost of Christmas present to Cratchit's home where he saw Cratchit and his family making the best out of Christmas even though Cratchit has a low salary and his son, Tiny Tim, has a disability. He was also toasted by Cratchit which touched Scrooge. Scrooge was also taken by the ghost of Christmas present to see his younger sister who loved him and took him home from school over Christmas. Scrooge was reminded she had his Fred and he should be kinder to him. After the 3 spirits leave Scrooge he pays a visit to Fred and his wife and sends a big turkey to the Cratchits. Therefore Scrooge became more considerate after his journey with the ghosts. In conclusion, Scrooge's adventure with these 3 ghosts resulted in a change in Scrooge, therefore he is a dynamic character. It is highly possible for people to change, especially if they can see the mistakes they are making. Hence, Scrooge proves that people can change after seeing the mistakes he has made in

A common mindset among the rich of the Victorian Era was that those who suffered from poverty had only themselves to blame. The upper-class saw themselves as superior because of their money, and the poor were looked down upon and blamed for their condition. The rich refused to accept any responsibility to help the poor, or even be kind to them, seeing them as “another race of creatures bound on other journeys”. Dickens challenged this outlook, and was disgusted by it, so he wrote the novella A Christmas Carol with the intent to change people’s views of the poor and society’s responsibility to them. Scrooge, who represents the richer class, is introduced as the personification of winter, after which Dickens uses Fezziwig who is the antithesis of Scrooge as an employer; Bob Cratchit and his family; and Ignorance and Want, in an attempt to illustrate the need for a more compassionate society.…

In summation, change is perceived negatively because of the negative aftereffects, how it affects other people, and the difficulties adapting. The negative aftereffects can change how the person see the world and themselves, like when Eliezer looked into a mirror to only see a corpse stare back. One person’s change can also impact others around them, an example of this is when Gregor’s family cannot pay back the debt because Gregor is unable to work anymore. Lastly, the difficulties that comes with trying to adapt to change, Gregor is unable to adapt to his new body and cannot find a way to get up. While some may see change as a good thing, the negatives that come with it is much…
