Have you ever thought about others or anybody else around you whom are less fortunate(the poor people)? Maybe you haven’t thought about it, or you have and/or done something about it like give them food, but don’t you realize there are other people who are the opposite of you, selfish. But some people can change this, as shown in this fictional story, a Christmas Carol, where the main character, Ebenezer goes through his past present and future in order to realize the mistakes he has made and how he can fix them. I believe the characteristic for A Christmas Carol’s Ebenezer is selfishness, as it shows throughout the story, from revisiting his past, reviewing the present, and witnessing an alternative future, but as the story progresses, he …show more content…
He wouldn’t even care for his family. It is explained that he had worked with a business partner named Jacob Marley, whom they shared personalities and thoughts, and had cared nothing else other than work. The Beginning has shown us an example with Ebenezer's own nephew, he didn’t care what he thought about, even though it was around Christmas, where people usually care for each other. He didn’t care about other people either. All he would care about was if he got his money and that was it. The story is trying to explain that Ebenezer’s selfishness by showing us how he treats other people, and of course it shows us by showing the arrogance of him about not caring about anything, not even a child like Tiny Tim. At the end(of the beginning of course), Jacob Marley’s ghost appears at his house to warn him about the afterlife if he doesn't change it and the ghosts in order to show the past present and future for him to be …show more content…
To recall, in the beginning of the story, he has shown us that he was a man of business and only cares about it. In the middle, he has shown a little change after seeing his past and present. And finally in the middle, he has shown us the change inside of him after seeing his alternative fate. Think about it, have you realize this could happen to you? Not really in a fictional way like this with an afterlife, but your own choices could be the death of anyone whether or not you care. The story A Christmas Carol has been trying to teach you to be more selfless through Scrooge’s

He starts to comprehend his harsh behaviours and asks the spirit to 'conduct [him] where you will. I went forth last night on compulsion, and I learnt a lesson…let me profit by it.' The spirit, through Dickens, transports Scrooge to view an affectionate scene during Christmas with the Cratchits, where Tiny Tim's feeble self is seated next to his father. Scrooge feels miserable for the family even though they are 'happy [and] grateful' because it was Christmas time and are always 'pleased with one another and contented with the time'. Dickens, through the Spirit of Christmas Present, has also used caricatures to juxtapose with Scrooge's characterization by revealing that even though on the 'dismal reef of sunken rocks' and in isolation, the lonely men at the lighthouse still 'wished each other Merry Christmas…and struck up a sturdy song', which shows Scrooge that no matter where people are, Christmas is a time for…

Dickens makes a positive aura around the Christmas feeling as of Stave 1, he makes the Stave full of energy as when Scrooge wakes up he is suddenly buzzing with energy and is as “light as a feather” and runs to the window where a young boy is shocked to know that Scrooge doesn’t know what day it is. Scrooge pays the boy to get the poultries and to buy the prize turkey which he delivers to Bob Cratchits as anonymous. The Stave is significant to the story as it shows that if someone as miserly as Scrooge can change it means that anyone can change which is what Dickens wants the adults as well as children who read the book so that they can change the way they behave to people. Dickens shows what the readers how it is like to be living in a poor family and is more or less basing the book on his own experience in his life. Scrooge evidently has become a happier person as Dickens shows by pretending to be angry with Bob Cratchit for being late…

Stave 1--Dismal Gray seemed to shroud the entire section of this story, hanging low like the mist over England. Although bleakness is not the main theme in A Christmas Carol, it is certainly present and important. As evidenced by the author’s word choice when he was adding description to the Christmas Eve night: it was cold, bleak, biting weather, and he could hear the people in the court outside….candles were flaring in windows of the windows of the neighboring offices, like ruddy smears upon the palpable brown air….to see the dingy cloud come drooping down obscuring everything….…

Dickens novella, “A Christmas Carol”, continues to influence many aspects of Christmas that are celebrated today, such as family gatherings, seasonal food and drink, a spirit of generosity and a humanitarian focus of generosity of those less fortunate during this holiday season. It is the diverse views of the spirit of generosity and humanitarian focus that Dickens seeks to expose in this literary work. The landscapes of the novella shift between the poverty stricken, sick and imprisoned to the higher classes whose enjoyment of the season is enriched by wealth, to the embittered character of Scrooge whose view is one of a day of waste. Dickens uses both outdoor and indoor landscape to create the character of Bob Cratchit by contrasting his dominated servant attitude while in service to Scrooge versus his openly loving father/husband role within the Cratchit family.…

A Christmas Carol tells the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge a man who, despite the cheerful spirit of Christmas, turns to solitary and secrecy throughout this period. The selfish attitude Scrooge portrays correlates to the manifestation of four spirits that present themselves as a warning of what shall occur if he continues on the path of self-interest. Self-interest lives within all of us, it gives us the inclination to put ourselves in front of others. However the spirit of Christmas lives to curtail the selfish motives we all shelter.
