Today’s society especially in the United States consumes too much fast food, resulting in a higher rate of obesity, disease, and an overall bad diet. These fast food companies are selling us unhealthy food that is causing an alarming rate of obesity. According to an article published by BioMed Central Public Health obesity is a major public health problem in the United States owing to its substantial mortality and morbidity and increased health care costs (Laxy). So, in addition to fast food causing obesity it is also costing people more money because they’re getting sick resulting in increased health care costs. Obesity is being fat in a way that is unhealthy (Merriam-Webster). In an article produced by Opposing Viwepoints it said, fast food items are heavily processed, which destroys nutrients and loads them with unhealthy additives, leading to many modern diseases and conditions(Mercola). Obesity is one of the major diseases these fast food foods are causing at an alarming rate. The foods from fast food restaurants are too energy dense and not nutrient dense, which means there are few healthy nutrients in fast food and high amounts of unhealthy nutrients like, saturated fat and sodium which play major roles in obesity and disease. An example of this is a Big Mac. According to McDonalds.com it says one big mac with no drink or fries contains ten grams of saturated fat, which is forty-nine percent of an average person’s recommended daily saturated fat intake. In addition, that one big mac contains 950 mg of sodium, which is forty percent of the average persons recommended daily sodium intake. Those numbers for one sandwich are very high and shouldn’t be that high. A person eating this type of meal simply one time of day is almost all the time going to go over there recommended sodium and saturated fat intake for that day. According to the American Diabetes Association this type of diabetes causes a problem with your body that causes blood glucose (sugar) levels to rise higher than normal because, your body can’t use insulin properly. So, insulin is being made by your body but, isn’t being used because of all the unhealthy food eaten, like from fast food restaurants. Type two diabetes is caused by an unhealthy lifestyle and diet. In an article published by Everyday Health it said, controlling your diet by avoiding typical fast-food choices plays a large role in helping control your blood sugar levels, a must when managing type 2 diabetes (Vroomen-Durning). Fast food is a major promoter of type two diabetes because, fast food contains high amounts of sodium, fats, and doesn’t contain much nutritional value at all. By reducing the amount of fast food a person eats can make type two diabetes go away and be avoided if not already
