In both “Cask of Amontillado” and “Tell-Tale Heart” Poe uses such strong irony. In “Cask of Amontillado” in the beginning of the story he starts off by mentioning the thousands of injuries of Fortunato then at the very end you never would have thought that Montresor would have murdered somebody. In the end Montresor says “his heart grew sick” due to the dampness of the catacombs. Many people would think his heart would be sad due to the fact he just killed somebody.
