Edgar Allen Poe born January 19,1809 is known as very famous poet and story-teller. Two of his stories “The Cask of Amontillado” and “The Tell-Tale Heart” show how Poe is great with connecting to the reader, how creative Poe is and his effectiveness in storytelling.
Poes writing in the “The Cask of Amontillado” and “Tell- Tale Heart” show how good Poe is at connecting to the reader. One way he connects to the reader is by giving visual references so you can picture in your head as you read. In “The Cask of Amontillado” Poe gives you a background of what’s happening at dusk. Poe talks in the way like you as the reader is sitting right next to him telling you a story. Another reason Poe connects to the reader is by explaining how drunk Fortunato was and how he had the cry of pain. In the “Tell-tale heart” Poe also has his ways by connecting to the reader. In both “Cask of Amontillado” and “Tell-Tale Heart” Poe uses such strong irony. In “Cask of Amontillado” in the beginning of the story he starts off by mentioning the thousands of injuries of Fortunato then at the very end you never would have thought that Montresor would have murdered somebody. In the end Montresor says “his heart grew sick” due to the dampness of the catacombs. Many people would think his heart would be sad due to the fact he just killed somebody. Poe also uses his creativity by making his stories have symbolism. In “Tell-Tale Heart” Poe talks about the “Old man’s eye” the eye is meaning that it could be creepy. Knowing that the eye makes the narrators “blood run cold” In “Cask of Amontillado” many do not know the background of the two names, “Montresor” meaning “my treasure” and “Fortunato” meaning “the fortunate one” are both examples of symbolism
