Edgar Allen Poe is one is a leader in American literature. History has remembered him with his style of writing. Pie has portrayed and incarnated the different elements of literature in all his works. Poe integrated within his works the functions and styles of American literature and the best place to find the elements and the functions of literature in the works of Poe are in his story titled The Cask of Amontillado. Poe composes The Cask of Amontillado. Using the motives of three literary elements in particular. He uses symbolism so that the reader could determine what is not written and use what is symbolic in the story to reveal what is inferred by Poe. He also uses figurative Language so that the reader could get a broader view of what is happening behind events of the story. A third and literary element Pie uses is the intensive use of irony within the conversation of fortunate and Montresor. Poe is a master of the arts of literature and using different literary elements he created The Cask of Amontillado. Poe uses symbolism in The Cask of Amontillado in different aspects, but the aspect that was illuminating with symbolism was the apparel of Fortunato. Poe not only uses symbolism to compose a good story to the reader but he as well uses figurative language to describe the feeling and emotions of his characters especially that of Montresor. But what Poe truly mastered in The Cask of Amontillado was the art of irony, which was shining in the conversations between Montresor and Fortunato.
