Carly Fiorina had similar views as the GOP, but there were some noticeable differences. A week before 9/11, both HP and Compaq was losing revenue and profit because of a market slowdown in the technology sector. The merger would create increased competition on the server side of the market but still put pressure on Dell and Gateway to innovate on the personal computer side of the market (Sorkin & Norris, 2001).
