In Shirley’s case study, she suffered a brain injury that left her depending from others. Furthermore, in other cases there is failure to account for patient acuity, patients can get more injured or acquire secondary illnesses or infections due to lack of care to the patient. In addition, patients can get sent home too soon without adequate education about how to take care of their illness or injury, and the one that most regret to experience is, patient death (Amer, 2013).

The ethical climate affects the nurses in many ways when relating it to staffing ratios. When nurses feel the support from their administration and their colleagues when it comes to staffing the whole atmosphere in which they work becomes positive and less stressful. A good ethical climate creates a foundation and teamwork where everyone supports each other. Nurse staffing effects the well-being and caring of the nurse in many ways.
