Participants The participants were randomly selected and derived from licensing lists from four states. I thought I was going to have the opportunity to advocate for a client because one of them confided in me that the reason they rarely come out of their room was because of how much pain they have in their legs when they are not elevated. Working in the past as a home health aide I knew that was an easily remedied problem. I couldn’t wait for my first opportunity to advocate for a client so I went to our social service morning meeting ready to convince Maryann and Kathy this particular client’s life would improve so much if she just had a wheelchair that raised her legs up. Unfortunately, they explained to me that in the two years that she had been with them she always used a different excuse but no matter how many provisions they made for her she never came out to socialize. I articulated my disappointment to Kathy and she told me about a time when a very young client with moderately low cognitive functioning came to their facility after breaking his hip.…
In situations where ethical decisions needs to be made, nurses will require combining every elements of the moral model to resolve the clinical problems. The moral model includes five steps: (1) massage the dilemma, (2) outline the options, (3) resolve the dilemma, (4) act by applying the chosen option, and (5) look back and evaluate the entire process (Guido, 2014).
