His comrades are his light, when he’s surrounded by the darkness of war. Paul and his friends laugh and joke and just have good times together. Those good times help tether them to the real world and keep them from succumbing to the horrors of war. In conclusion, war is a terrible thing for any person to go through. However, going through alone would certainly drive anyone to insanity. It is the camaraderie between soldiers that keeps them fighting for what they believe in. Paul and his friends have that strong spirit of camaraderie. It is this Comradeship and brotherhood that these young men of about twenty share that provides them with comfort, a rationale to continue fighting, and, most importantly, it brings a light unto them in these dark and horrible
