Business Management is a vigorous, exciting, hardworking profession, “it is the art of getting things done through people” (Kinicki &Williams 2013). Every organization and aspect of modern human life requires of management in some degree. Individuals that pursue a career in management will acquire a set of critical skills and abilities, which will serve them as a solid foundation for economic, political, and administrative careers. Additionally, studying management provides students with common knowledge for most businesses, regardless of the area in which they perform in the future. The possibility to concentrate in different areas gives business majors a competitive advantage over others, in which graduate students receive a generic title and do not acquire abilities to better perform in a specific area. A bachelor in business will give also provide students with a wide range of work opportunities in which they can adequately perform after graduating. The type of specialization a student decides to pursue will depend upon the abilities and skills they want to acquire. Therefore, students should feel comfortable and enjoy the specialization area they choose to concentrate on. It is recommended that students concentrate in a specific area because a generic business degree in a competitive business world will not be able to differentiate you and provide you with a competitive knowledge and abilities over other business majors. Internships will provide students with real job experience, start their careers, and help them develop skills to increase their knowledge and abilities as a manager. (Hurt Jessica, Ann Tyne Internships 2014). Most managerial positions require of a previous working experience. Therefore, internships are essential attributes that serve as a connection to real jobs for a business student. According to a survey performed by the NACE (National Association of College Scholars) in 2011 employers prefer to hire graduates with relevant work experience, rather than contracting employees who do not have work experience. (Hurt Jessica, Ann Tyne Internships 2014). Internships will ease student’s transition from a college related discourse community into the business world and will help them adapt to working environments in the future. In addition to internships, an extracurricular activity that is essential way to obtain a competitive advantage is, a study abroad program. A study abroad program will provide students with new perspectives and ideas about different cultures, education, and business practices around the world, which will give you a competitive advantage and a unique experience, an aspect an employer might take into consideration when deciding to higher new employees.
