Bullying is a big topic that is spoken a lot about. Bullying happens mainly in schools. There has been a lot of research done to figure out why it happens, and how can it be stopped. You may think that bullying doesn’t happen as often as you think. But in reality it happens a lot. 64 percent of children who were bullied did not report it, and only 36 percent reported the bullying. (Petrosina, Guckenburg, DeVoe, and Hanson, 2010). Educators, researchers, and teachers have concerns about bullying. One concern about bullying is how it impacts the students. Sometimes the impact of the bullying can lead to serious situations such as committing suicide, school shootings, and becoming depressed. It just depends on how bad the bullying gets from one person to another.
Reasons why bullying happens is because of someone’s age, what someone looks like, what their gender is, and if the person has any learning disabilities. According to the National Autistic Society, “40 percent of children with autism and 60 percent of children with Asperger’s syndrome have experienced bullying”. Over the years, a considerable amount of attention has been grasped about bullying by the media and public. Many researchers have been trying to understand the whole concept of bullying and why it happens. The majority of researches found that bullying is associated with neighborhood environments and cultural influences.
