In other words, bullies will keep being a bully, but at the end of the day they are not better than anyone else. Bullying nowadays isn’t only name calling, but pushing, kicking, hitting and sending mean text messages etc. Bullies are selfish, and they take advantage of others that are weak to take their anger out. In fact, they're making a fool of themselves thinking bullying is a fun thing to do. The short and long term effects of bullying consist of “anger, depression, difficulty trusting people, tendency to be a loner, desire for revenge, greater incidence of illnesses, lower grades than non-bullied peers, and suicidal thoughts or feelings.” (Dombeck, 2007) The victim becoming the bully, in order time mask their own despair and anxieties, is a short-term result of bullying. That effect also lends more credence to the idea that bullying is an endless cycle. One of the most significant long term consequences of bullying is the gradual disintegration of the victim’s self-esteem and confidence. That is, in my opinion, the most severe consequence of bullying. Lack of self-esteem opens the door to many bullying consequences such as bodily harm, suicide, and lashing out violently towards other students. This, in turn, leads to such events as school…

Bullying is not the main reason why children commit suicide but it can add to the feeling of helplessness and hopelessness that raise the risk of suicide. “Fat. Gay. Or just different from the crowd. These are the reasons children are being bullied – sometimes to death – in America’s schools, with at least 14 students committing suicide in the past year alone” (Dubreuil and McNiff). Children do not feel comfortable telling their parents about being bullied at school. They usually feel that they are supposed to work it out themselves, not running to an adult who may overreact and make things worse. Parents need to invite their children to talk openly about whatever it is that is bothering them and follow through with the discussion and plans made. Children that are bullied can be feeling ashamed and overpowered, it is important to remind our children that bullying is unacceptable and cannot go…
