Briggs and Stratton is an American industrial company that primarily is involved in engineering, developing, and manufacturing internal combustion gas engines for small power machines. The company was started in 1908 and they are the world’s leading producer in small engines and specialize in products such as: generators, pressure washers, snow blowers, air compressors, and lawnmower engines. The Briggs and Stratton plant in Auburn has been in service since August of 1995. The company has been a top 5 employer in the area since it has opened and has been actively involved in community activities such as Habitat for Humanity, United Way, and Rebuilding Together; they have also been a long-running sponsor of the Fourth of July fireworks for the City of Auburn. The company also has had a long relationship with Auburn University and works collectively on a plethora of engineering projects since they have been present in the area. The plant was decently messy to start with; most stations were clean but some were cluttered with what looked like scrap and unusable parts. However, there could have designated stations for those reasons. With this clutter it is dangerous for the employees because a worker could trip over a scrap on the ground and injure themselves. Because the work areas were cluttered, it is dangerous for the workers’ because they could accidentally move their hand into a work area and brush or hit a sharp or hot scrap with a part of his or her body. This was the only safety concern I noted with the plant. The Briggs and Stratton plant is very nicely put together and very clean, however, I spotted a few things I feel that they could improve upon.
