Beowulf is an epic hero who has went through the hero’s journey. Amongst the warriors depicted in the poem, Beowulf emerges as the most heroic. He not only exudes the strength of a warrior, but also stands to fulfill his social obligations. An epic hero is someone who has superman qualities, who embodies the values of his society, and who is larger than life. During Beowulf’s journey he crosses a large lake and encounters a numerous amount of difficult challenges along the way. He is so determined to play his role as a leader, and is also ready to face his destiny and fate without a moment’s hesitation. During his epic journey he also displays many superhuman-like qualities. These qualities prove to be examples of how he embodies the values of his society. He is an honorable, valuable character throughout the story. Beowulf took pride in being a citizen of the country of Geatland and Hygelac was the king of the Geats. “ Just as Beowulf has been guided by honor and his love for Hygelac”(Gulley Allison).
The story of Beowulf’s heroism is displayed many times throughout the story of Beowulf.
