There is a specific past event that shows the dangers of the pageants. A young girl named JonBenet Patrick Ramsey, (young pageant queen) was kidnapped and murdered at the age of six in 1996. The kidnappers asked her parents for a ramsen- which they didn’t pay in time. Her body was found in her basement on Christmas morning. (D) JonBenet would probably still be alive today if she would have never participated in these pageants. Pageants for children need to be banned. One mother gave her 8-year old botox. (B) In my opinion, botox is a bad idea for a person of any age. It is horrible enough when it is done to a mature adult, can you imagine an 8-year old getting botox? Frank Furedi (sociologist) said, “such contests are just a couple steps up from cuffs. (F) At first, children are forced by their parents to put on a bunch of makeup and costumes. Frank is saying that forcing these children to do all this is almost as bad as putting them in handcuffs. Children need to play; they need to discover their natural talents on their own. Discovering happens through play, not by grilling the girls in rehearsals. (G) Children need to find themselves on their own. They are at the age of large developments and they can’t be forced into these pageants. Teenage girls already have enough pressure. (B) Teen years are tough for many people. Many of them feel the pressure to fit in and get the best grades. The pressure of winning these pageants is just something extra that is unnecessary. Children could quite possibly be losing their childhood. (B) Your childhood is a time to play, learn, and make friends. When children participate in pageants, their opportunity to play and learn is lessened.
