Psychotherapist Nancy Irwin says,” These little girls are being trained to look and act like sexual bait.”. She even goes to say that the parents are putting the girls in pageants to receive fame and fortune (Hollandsworth, 2011).
The expert opinion helps the author’s argument to help prove that he is not being bias. He used two other people and their experiences to demonstrate that pageants are not safe for little kids. I believe using the two experts helped Hollandsworth in his argument.
Skip Hollandsworth uses examples of different stories to tell the negative effects of pageants. For example, he talks about Eden Woods and her mom. Eden for being six years old already spent a small fortune on pageants. Eden doesn’t even look like Eden no more. Then Mr. Hollandsworth, talks about JonBenet Ramsey. JonBenet use to be heavily involved in pageants before her tragic death (Hollandsworth, 2011). JonBenet friend, Rayanna DeMatteo, talks about how she was scared to go back to pageants because she believed that she was going to also get murdered (Hollandsworth, 2011).
