Miss Blossomtime Research Paper

We are not Toddlers and Tiaras Spotlights shining right in your eyes, you can hear everyone cheering your name, will you win? Or was all the hard work for nothing; pageants are not just based on pure beauty. Many communities each year have their own pageants For Berrien County, it’s the Miss Blossomtime pageants. These consist of 22 pageants for each local community, and then in March each one of those girls who won compete for the title of Miss Blossomtime. By competing in pageants you learn how to socialize with your peers, how to present yourself in front of a community, and you learn how to grow as a person inside and out. Blossomtime is the most commonly known festival in all of Michigan (History of Blossomtime). These pageants and community events started in 1906 when local businesses attracted tourists to their area (History of Blossomtime). Chris is the chairmen of the Stevensville community queens and pageant, this means that she organizes the pageant each year and she is responsible for where Miss Stevensville and her court of honor go and when. “Being a chairmen is harder than it looks, to plan a pageant and make sure you get enough money to support it, it’s a lot of time and money.” states Chris. I asked her how much of being a Blossomtime Queen is based off of looks, and how much was on the person alone, she answered by saying, “Many people walk into a pageant and judge a girl based on her looks, when in reality, the judges have the hardest time during the day of the pageant.
