This statement proves that curfew laws are reasonable because nobody wants kids running around causing vandalism. Next, the article, “Be Home by Curfew” by the Baltimore Sun Newspaper states, “Young people are far less likely to get into trouble” (1). This also proves curfew laws are doing their job, which is keeping kids out of trouble. If the curfew laws were not in effect, kids would still be getting into trouble all over the place, and even though curfew laws take away some freedom, we need some compromises, so not as many juveniles become entangled into an awful predicament. Lastly, in the article, “Baltimore’s New Curfew Law Takes Effect Friday” Anthony McNutt says that the curfew law “has a potential to save lives” (Wegner/Campbell, 1). Some people believe that the curfew laws promote a stereotype that all youth are delinquent and immature, that kids can not be outside because of an atrocious law, and that curfew laws are unconstitutional and afoul youth’s first amendment rights. However, other people believe that curfew laws help reduce juvenile crime and violence, along with protecting minors. Even though some people believe that curfew laws promote a false stereotype about youth being delinquent and immature, the government passed these laws to keep youth safe, lots people also believe that it is an exceptional idea to keep children out of harm’s way at night, and in a mostly Hispanic neighborhood, the Good Shepherd Service provides after school activities to reduce juvenile crime and vandalism. Next, a subset of people believe that kids should be able to be outside at night. On the other hand, other people want the curfew law because it reduces vandalism, gives children and their parents the message that kids need to be inside at night, and because it advances safety. Lastly, a subdivision of people think that curfew laws are unconstitutional and afoul youth’s amendment rights of speech and free association.
