Editorial Refutation
Based on the editor Ryan Mackenzie, the Des Moines register had a school boarding meeting that involves the times of school being changed. Having that change can affect many children with their daily routine because it affects their sleeping habits. Researchers think it can positively affect teens academic and social choices but it can also affect the attendance of teens going through middle or high school.
The first and main argument I disagree is the time school will start for teenagers being later while for elementary it is being changed to earlier. I think that if the times changed, it should be equal to both teens and elementary children because elementary children are growing and the most important thing for them

I don’t think teenagers need that extra 45 minutes to help them with any of their academic or social choices because the later they start school the more possibilities they might not go. Also with the later class, teens get out of school later and gives them less time to socialize with friends or family or even having physical activities because their day ends a lot faster.
With this new time start, many different organizations will be affected. It may affect families because they have less time with their teen kids. It can also affect many school activities with having to start later and end sooner since the day ends faster. Teens shouldn’t be affect with these possibilities of not being in an activity because the later changes.
There has been a non-scientific survey that has reported 50 percent of parent that have agree or are undecided with the new time changes and 60 percent of staff agreed with the change. I believe that parents think it’s right for their children to start later or earlier because of the evidence that they have been provided about their children academic improvement. Staff had worked in school with the children and they might also believe it is right because it can change their school education but they don’t understand that it can affect the different schools because it will not be the same times for all

It is an ongoing argument on whether high school students should arrive at schools later to help the teens who are sleep deprived, depressed and have serious mood swings. This is inconvenient for a number of reasons. Parents cannot get their children to school on time if the school time is changed, and it interrupts the teens schedules who are already accustomed to the 7:30 time scheduling. In the passage “ High schools starting later to help sleepy teens” by: Michelle Trudeau it states that later school times are helping the teens be more alert in class, they have less depression issues and the parents have less problems than before due to their emotions being more regulated.…

In fact, 79% of teens in secondary schools have been found to periodically be involved in these after-school activities. 57% of those kids participate in activities that are not related to their school (Scios). For that 57%, getting to their extracurriculars would be a challenge. Businesses outside of school do not adhere to the school schedule. Therefore, pushing back a school start time would push into those activities, causing teens to lose a valuable part of their life.…

The struggle for waking up for school is real; the struggle and difficulty to change how early students go to school is a present problem. The United States has been quarreling around with the factors on making the education system the most effective it can be. With that being said, one of the issues being discussed is how advantageous schools would be with later start times. However, school starting at a later time can result in hurting the students in the long run, disputes between how beneficial it is to start at later times, and lastly looking whether it is financially wiser for the schools and students. Starting schools at a later start time would start a literal outrage and shock amongst peers and parents.…

For years, many people involved in the school community, teachers and students alike, have argued that school should begin later in the day. There are many pro’s and con’s when it comes to this area of discussion, because of both the positive and negative aspects that would follow such changes within the school system. Many students believe that beginning school later in the day would lead to improvement in their learning and listening capabilities, due to the fact that they have obtained more sleep and are therefore now more awake, and their brains more active. It would also allow for the students to stay up later if necessary for work, homework, extra curriculars, etc. Many teachers believe, and research has shown, that starting school at…

Can you imagine a teens daliy agend starting at 9:00am when they get up and get ready. Then they get to school at 10:00am right on time of 1st period, then at 5:00pm they get on the bus and drive home, but during this time is usually when sport practice, part time jobs, and clubs usually start and some even end by this time. So the adolescents wouldn't have time for any extra curricular activities and barely enough time to do homework, and that is due to the school having an later start and end time. Starting later has some pros and cons. One pro is that adolescents would get more sleep.…

Are you fine with students having their grades, standardized test scores being affected by an early start time, and miss more days of school. The first reason is that the students grades are affected by the earlier start times for school, because they aren’t as awake and alert as they would if they had later start in the day, being sleepy throughout the day can hurt their grades because they don’t pay attention to the teacher. They have a chance to fall asleep during class making them miss important things that they have to do or are learning and can fall behind in class.…

I completely agree with this article. Starting school at 8:30 is extremely too early for me to try to function and most other teens around my age. I feel like school would go a lot smoother if it started at a later time. First of all kids would wake up refreshed and ready to conquer all the obstacles that a regular school day may bring. School actually is not that bad and most would agree the hardest part of school is dragging yourself out of bed to try to get to school on time.…

Earlier Or Later School Start Times Schools Start times is an issue that the board of education has been addressing for the past years. In my opinion, I feel that we need to make a decision on whether what time it’s best for schools to start. “ In a statement published in the journal of Pediatrics, the Academy’s Adolescent sleep working reviewed the studies to date involving how inadequate sleep among teens -- which means anything less than 8.5 hours to 9 hours, a night on school says -- contribute to health issues such as obesity, diabetes, mood changes, behavior problems” (Park 1 ). Many students suffer from this conditions with are: diabetes, mood changes and especially behavior problems due to sleeping arrangements. Logically, students have…

School start times should not change to a later start. For one, it can be very costly, and many students could take advantage of the shift in times, and go to bed later than they already would. There are many complications that can come into play if school start times shifted to a later time. Mrs. Willie, an eighth grade social studies teacher at Western Middle School says that, if school starts later, some teachers that live far away, (which most do..) would be getting up at the same time for school because of traffic, and coming home later, which would leave teachers having no free time for themselves, or doing school related things like grading. Another reason that school start times should not change is that if Greenwich Public Schools changes the start time, it can cause major stress on students.…
