My investigation focused on exploring the effects of anxiety on the cognitive functions of the body and establishing some effective treatments. The topic was inspired by my interest in medicine and mental disorders that affect large proportions of the contemporary populace.
A vast array of research processes was conducted to in order to determine the various effects of anxiety on the functions of the brain. More specifically, a series of literature reviews, interviews and analyses of primary and secondary sources, allowed me to discover the key factors that contribute to anxiety, such as the hormonal levels, neurotransmitters, and several brain components of the individual. The responses obtained for the questions, coincided with the information obtained through other various research processes, therefore it can be established that the interview was a valid and reliable method of obtaining information. The responses from the interview established that anxiety can the communication abilities of an individual, this was supported by a project conducted by Fiona Nation (2014), that concluded that anxiety can affect several of the brain functions, memory and communication of an individual which can result in a declining overall performance of an individual. An additional interesting piece of information that was obtained through the interview was that anxiety could be manipulated to increase the performance of athletes by allowing the body to flooded with large quantities of cortisol and norepinephrine, which are hormones and neurotransmitters that provide an accelerated perception, speed and reflexes in overwhelming situations. This was supported by several research articles published online. The interviewee was Julia Merkel who is a Psychologist, specializing in mental health and emotion. Therefore, this interview was a highly valid and reliable source of
