“92% of experimental drugs that are safe and effective in animals, fail in human clinical trials because they are too dangerous or don’t work” noted by The Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Obviously a solution to the constant abuse and unsuccessful testing is needed, but what? The answer should not be more animals; it should be new opportunities. New opportunities for animals as they escape into a normal life. New opportunities for humans as we further our understanding in technology so the use of animals is no longer needed. Although some may find animal testing necessary, animal testing should be illegal because its inhumane, better alternatives are available, and animals have greater potential.
Animals are the second smartest species in the world, yet people feel the need to put them through torturous trials and harsh treatment by using pills, injections, and many skin care products. Would a human being want to go through all of that? According to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, also known as PETA, “More than 100 million animals suffer and die in the U.S. every year in cruel chemical, drug, food, and cosmetic tests as well as in medical training exercises and curiosity driven medical experiments at Universities.” This demonstrates the large population of animals that is unjustly used for experimental purposes.
