Both stories are different from one another because in Christie’s “And Then There Were None” there is widespread suspicion , but in Welty’s “Powerhouse” the main character only suspects one person, Uranus Knockwood to be responsible for the death of Mrs.Powerhouse. Powerhouse and others also suggest that Mrs.Powerhouse could have taken her own life. Christie uses the element of widespread suspicion because once characters begin to start dying one after another, The Judge, suggests that every guest is a suspect and is capable of committing these crimes. On the other hand, Welty does not use the element of widespread suspicion. Instead, in Welty’s short story only one person is suspected, Uranus Knockwood. Powerhouse suspects that Uranus Knockwood killed Mrs.Powerhouse, Powerhouse most likely suspects Uranus Knockwood because Powerhouse claims that Knockwood has followed him around and that Knockwood takes everybodys wives while they are gone. Other than Uranus Knockwood being a suspect, Powerhouse and others make a suggestion that Mrs.Powerhouse could have taken her own life by jumping out of the hotel
