In the beginning of the book, we are introduced to the eight strangers who were invited to the mysterious island named “Soldier Island” by an unknown host name U.N. Owen. The eight were Mr. Justice Wargrave, Vera Claythorne, Philip Lombard, Emily Brent, General Macarthur, Edward Armstrong, Tony Marston and William Blore. Justice
Wargrave is a retired judge who was invited into Soldier Island by a woman named Constance Culmington. Vera Claythorne is a skilled secretary who was hired by Mr. Owen to be his own secretary in Soldier Island. Philip Lombard was also another soldier and was invited by Mr. Owen because of his reputation is that of a good man in a tight place. Emily Brent was a sixty-five year old

They soon found out that it was coming from the gramophone. Mrs. Rogers fainted during their search and Mr. Rogers told them that he received a letter from Mr. Owen telling him to put the disc on the gramophone and immediately play it after dinner. Justice Marshall soon grew suspicion on who U.N. Owen really is. Each of the guests told Marshall the reason they where here. Emily Brent said that she doesn’t even know U.N. Owen and thought the signature was from his friend with the name Oliver. Everybody soon told Justice why they were in the island. Finally, Marshall came up with a hypothesis; they were invited by an unknown, dangerous, homicidal lunatic. Marshall asked each and every one of them about what their connection with the person they were accused of murdering. Justice told them that he sentenced the person accused to him to death because of his charges. Vera told them that she was too late to rescue the kid she was swimming with. Macarthur said he sent out Richmond, person accused to him, to a reconnaissance in which he died. Dr. Armstrong remembered a patient he killed because of operating while drunk but refused to tell them. Lombard said he left some of his to die in a mission. The Rogers were taking care of the woman who died. Marston said he killed somebody accidentally due to speeding. Lastly, Blore told them he killed a guy who robbed a bank. Emily Brent remained silent and told them she was
