Many of Edwards photographs were pictures of a particular person, Scene, or item. His picture “Cabbage Leaf” is precisely what the title states a leaf from a cabbage. He didn't distort the image, he captured realistic in depth pictures and because of this “Cabbage Leaf” Would be considered a representational art piece. By looking at the cabbage leaf you see the veins of the cabbage in depth cascading down the leaf like water. Edward wanted to photograph everyday things in a different light and by doing that they evoke emotion from their viewers. I believe he made this Photograph because he saw something more and beautiful in a normal everyday simple vegetable. He eventually had actual schooling in Illinois and continued on with photography until he could no longer. In the beginning I would say that Edward was a Folk artist. He hadn't attended school for art and took photographs how he wanted however they were typical portrait type photography which is a common form of photography.
