Neither of the speakers truly communicates with the other, and the same is happening with Della and Jim. By these characters’ applying there owe Tone and Irony, Situational Irony to also include the Ironic Symbol. She knows that she is going to make the final verdict, even though she is asking for encouragement from the American. The girl also knows that in spite of her situation, their affiliation might not work out in any case. The choice to abort or not abort the baby is still with eventually life without the American. The girl continues with “Then I 'll do it. Because I don 't care about me” Saying she will do the operation in hopes of saving their relationship. But does she really want’s this as the outcome of the whole story. They both made great sacrifices in order to have enough money to purchase what they each thought the other person would like. Both individuals strapped for cash and wanting to give each other. Della and her beloved husband the most luxurious gift for Christmas to express her deep passion for him, With only a dollar and some change to spend on Jim, Della is forced into a situation where she must find a way to acquire the suitable funds to spend on Jim 's gift, but how? On both of the stories puts the reader in the middle of an issue that must be resolved. At the end of each conclusion of the story they both work out on both situations.
