Her strongest cognitive skill is her ability to count. Kiara is able to true count and count by rote. She has gotten past the common errors made when learning to count and is able to partition, is coordinated, and understands cardinality. When asked to count up to 10 she did it almost instinctively. When asked to count objects she did it without any mistakes. Her second strongest skill is writing. Kiara is able to write her name and almost all of the letters of the alphabet. When it comes to drawing people a good test of a child’s cognitive abilities. Kiara does what is expected of a child her age she draws a “tadpole figure” Her picture of a person consists of a head with arms and legs attached, she also includes eyes and hair. A cognitive skill that Kiara has not yet developed is the ability to conserve. Kiara did not understand that when an irrelevant factor like spacing will not affect the mass volume or weight of an object. However this one setback does not negate all of her other abilities and overall Kiara is developing as expected when it comes to cognitive development. (Prudhoe, 2015) Physically Kiara is a typical 4 year old. When given a set of objects to copy and draw herself, Kiara was able to draw the majority of them they included a circle, a cross, a square, a triangle, and a rectangle. This shows that her fine motor skills are developing as expected. (Berk, 315) When it comes to gross motor skills within five hours of observing I witnessed Kiara walk down stairs with alternating feet, run smoothly, catch a stick using two hands, and use a fork with no trouble; skills a 4 year old should possess.
