Emma Watson, a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, gave a speech which addressed gender equality called, “Gender equality is your issue too.” She targeted all people but more specifically men. An innumerable amount of people in all parts of the world remain ignorant to the fact that gender inequality exists. Unfortunately many people, who do have an understanding of the inequality of genders, see nothing wrong with it. This could be because of their society, culture, and the way that countries have functioned for hundreds of years. In the past, men and women generally had their own roles in society; they had not been given equal opportunities. Currently, many people fail to see that gender inequality affects men just as much as it affects women. Forced to conform to specific roles, men and women continue to force themselves to complete duties, dress a certain way, and pursue careers because they feel inclined to do so. Emma Watson uses various rhetorical strategies in order to persuade people, specifically men, that gender inequality affects everyone and it must come to an end for the best of the people. People must take action and be influential in the fight against gender inequality.
