Adolescent internet gaming addiction is one problem and most critical issues facing our youth both in and outside the United States of America. With adolescent’s this can become a real life serious issue and if not caught during the early stages, parents are known to find their adolescent children experiencing social isolation among other things such as substance abuse. Adolescents can become very argumentative which leads to anger and frustration, the quality of education and healthy relationships with their peers can be affected and internet gaming for adolescents can become time consuming. Over the past 10 years or so, internet usages alone have developed into an enormous number that has yet to be found without including negative consequences of some sort (Smahel, Brown, & Blinka, 2012). Excessive use of the Internet with adolescents has also been linked to a large amount of negative psychosocial consequences such as depression, anxiety, mood disorder and sleep disorders (Chou, Ko, Kaufman, Crowell, Hsiao, Wang, Yen, 2015). In this paper I will attempt to introduce adolescent internet gaming addiction, defend its importance, and I will discuss key points and controversies plus conclude with an explanation of why adolescent internet gaming addiction is important to study.
