Active Listening In Social Work

How many times have you been talking with someone and they act like they were not listening to you? I can say that this has happened to me quite a lot. The person I was talking to seem uninteresting in what I was saying or seemed like they were disengaged. Do you remember how it made you feel? I can say that it made me feel confused and even angry. That’s why active listening is very important to our clients as social workers. It’s important because it helps build a trusting relationship with them. When we are fully engaged with our clients listening helps us connect with their story and get to know them one on one. It breaks down the barriers and gives us insight into how we can help them cope with issues that they are having. Most of the
