Renaissance as described by Dictionary.com is “revival or rebirth especially of culture and learning” (Dictionary.com, 2015). In my paper I will examine indigenous culture and its revival or rebirth by looking at what Indigenous Culture is, its origins, what it means to Aboriginal people and how it is being revived today in the current Australian society.

In examining Aboriginal culture we must realize that to an Aboriginal person their culture is more than just paintings and dancing. It is their essential being, their spirituality, how they live, how they perceive everything about them as it weaves throughout their lives. It governs their family structure, their laws, their history and how they interact with the world around them. Indigenous people learn in different ways, live in different ways and express themselves in different ways to other Australians. It is essentially private but can be shown to Australian society through their artefacts, their ceremonies and their art. Understanding what was said in the above quote many Australians after being exposed to Aboriginal culture finally begin to understand the oneness of Aboriginal people with the land and how they should embrace the wonderful country that they live in. Again let me quote from a source about Aboriginal culture; - “The hallmark of Aboriginal culture is ‘oneness with nature’. These people have employed various modern forms of culture from the time of the 1900’s to show the Australian people the rich tapestry of Aboriginal life and culture. Two very good examples of this are NITV on the SBS television network where Aboriginal Australians’ are creating their own series, show and both sports and news programs. The other is Gadigal radio where Aboriginal people can showcase their own native music as well the up todate contemporary pop music that today’s modern Aboriginal performer can produce. Film and theatre are no exception leading from such films as Jedda in the past to Bran Nue Dae, Ten Canoes and The Sapphires in modern times. In dance the Bangarra dance theatre is famous not only in Australia but also the world where traditional dance meets ballet and contemporary dance. Festivals have played their part in showcasing Aboriginal culture to the Australian societ. YABUN which I attend is the biggest in Australia and is held on January 26th every
