Did you know that the book Abercrombie Trail was written to inform readers about a historical event? Abercrombie Trail is about an emerging adult named Evan taking a big step in his life. He travels to America to start a new life. He ends up getting in the middle of a war, the Sioux Uprising. The Sioux said,”Over the earth I come.”(pg.176) He runs into many difficulties and conflicts. There were many conflicts in Abercrombie Trail and I put three of them in my paper such as: Evan vs. his commandments, Crooked Lightning vs. his innerself, and Crooked Lightning vs. Evan. The first one I am going to talk about is the conflict between Evan and his commandments. One main conflict from Abercrombie Trail was between Evan and his commandments. The conflict between Evan and his commandments starts when he meets Inga and Ingvald Erickson. Evan says,”I would not covet another man’s wife.”(pg.41) Evan saw the way Ingvald treated Inga and decided not to raise his tongue at him. This already shows the conflict between Evan and his commandments. The conflict develops when Evan starts to like Inga and it is against his commandments to fall in love with someone else's lover. Crooked Lightning throughout the book had to choose between his Indian ways or sparing Evan and keeping the friendship. Evan and Crooked Lightning have a conflict in the book because they not suppose to be friends but throughout the book their friendship is strong enough to hold.
