The poem ‘A summer day’, by Mary Oliver asks the question “What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”. The UCF College of Business is filled with so many opportunities, I try to take advantage of all that I can while it is available. One of those opportunities is the chance to attend career fairs, another is having career services. Since transferring to UCF from Valencia I had heard about students attending career fairs and landing jobs just by networking and handing out resumes. I thought that was far-fetched, that potentially someone could obtain the employer contacts and stay in communication with them until an interview came of it. You could easily say I had little faith in my own self, even knowing I had developed a great resume with all my resources, and practiced interviews through multiple mock interviewing at career services. Little did I know I would be called for an interview from a CFE arena career fair, simply by networking and handing out a resume. One of the objectives on my career action plan was to secure an internship. At the event, I networked with a recruiter from Springleaf Financial, gave them my resume, the next day I received a phone call for an interview. I interviewed with the branch manager, then district manager. All that in mind, I now have an internship set up at Springleaf as a personal loan specialist. Nevertheless this experience goes to show how using the resources UCF provides can be valuable towards career endeavors.…
