This was said by my high school teacher, Mary Ellen Topian three years ago and with the recent mockery presented by the GOP candidates, I 'm reminded of this quote on a daily basis.

This article will not apply to the majority of Americans who welcome immigrants with open arms. However, it is important to realize that this country was built on the graves of Native Americans and the sweat of African Americans. This beautiful land of 2.3 billion acres is more than enough for those who were lucky to be born here as well as those who weren’t so lucky. This is a nation of immigrants.

Since the uprising of the GOP front-runner, Mr. Trump, there has been several cases of hate crime which were encouraged by the one and only. In the wake of the tragic San Bernardino shooting, instead of comforting the nation that we were in fact safe, Mr. Trump had opted for, "a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States". With the country already vulnerable after the attack, Mr. Trump took this to further promote his racist and fictional political agenda.

Of course Mr. Trump isn 't fully to be blamed for the recent spike in hate crimes against immigrants. With more than 7 million American unemployed, the blame has to be placed on those who are "taking their jobs". Majority of my debates with xenophobes have started with “they’re taking our jobs.
