Robert goes through each of these step to conquer and ‘cure’ his M.P.D. His call to adventure was being diagnosed with Alcoholism, and having blocks of his memory missing. He then he met his mentor, Dr. Jeffrey Smith, who was his therapist helping him with his drinking problems. A few months into therapy, Dr. Smith diagnosed Robert with Multiple Personality Disorder (M.P.D.). In chapter 2 Bob is the main personality, that discovers the M.P.D., and he has to deal with the realization that it’s not only him in one body, and rejected the idea: this is the refusal to adventure. Bob crossed through the threshold, by accepting the M.P.D., choosing Dr. Smith to be his therapist, and help with the process of integration. Bob’s tests, allies, and eminimes were discovered early in the book. His tests were to learn everyone in the clastel of M.P.D.. Hie enemies are, the Witch and Tommy; these are forms of the original abuser created by the M.P.D. to continue the abuse in his mind. The allies were complicated within the personalities. When the Witch would speak her words would be horrific and harsh, the reader could feel the hatred in her words. Whereas, when Wanda would speak (the merge of the Witch and the Eyes) the words were soft and peaceful. Robert always wanted Bob to listen to his heart and to the ‘right’ thing rather than the ‘economic’ right thing. Bobby's tone was playful and forgiving. On the other hand, Tommy's tone was spiteful and rageful. Even though they are contrasting characters, Bobby and Tommy were able to merge into one personality. Every character is shown differently with their grammar, the headings, and the tone of their voices. The dialogue expresses that even though we are diverse we could come to love one
