Beauty and property were associated with Nora’s role and was not open to have many career opportunities such as a lawyer or doctor. A woman of the 1800’s role in life was to be a capable cook, having and rearing children, caring for the house and being a submissive wife. In fact, the large majority of women in the 19th century were illiterate because it was assumed that they had no need to read if all they work they did was rising children. But current time women have the opportunity for high paid and higher ranked positions to achieve. Modern women have the capability to control their own finances and choice in life while the 19th century woman could not open a loan with a bank without the approval of her husband. Contrasting as well the dress code for modern women now consist more options such as pants, and alternative clothing that apples to their personality while women of 19th century were more conservative in dressing and was not normal to see women in pants or more masculine clothing. Some similarities between the two types of women is pay gap between men and women, being that men are on average still paid higher. Also women still on average look after the house and up bring of the children however in 21st century the time spent at home on average has decline due to professional
