In Anglo-Saxon society, women generally were to produce children as heirs to a throne, or were used to end wars and arguments between kingdoms. They were viewed as property, and nothing more. In modern-day society, women have certainly moved up in the ranks, and are given more respect than they once were. Despite the fact that women are still paid less than men, and can be seen as inferior by some, there is much more opportunity for them now than there ever was in Anglo-Saxon society. Men's roles have stayed the same for the most part; being the primary source of income for a family and almost always holding the higher positions of society. Over time, women will become even more self sufficient and independent, furthering themselves from the roles they used to fill in Anglo-Saxon society.
