Toby has a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder as well as an intellectual disability. He is currently non-verbal; utilizing simple gestures and basic Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) as his main form of communication. He is currently enrolled in a self-contained first grade special education classroom at Sunny Days Elementary School as well as receiving in-home services 20 hours per week. He is currently prescribed Risperdal and Melatonin by his neurodevelopmental pediatrician in order to address challenging behaviors and sleep problems.
Summary of Functional Behavior Assessment Toby’s functional behavior assessment (FBA) was completed on 10/01/2016, by ABC Consulting. The results indicate Toby engages in self-injurious behavior

As displayed in his FBA, this behavior serves the purpose of gaining adult attention as provided through the parents returning him to his room.
Operational Definitions and Summary Statements Operational definitions provide the foundation for training the people who will implement the program as well as provisioning for a clear understanding of whether the behavior is, or is not occurring (Cooper, Heron, & Heward, 2007). All interventions in ABA must meet technological requirements, in that they must be described well enough that they can be implemented by anyone with adequate training and resources; operationally defining the behavior is the first step in meeting this requirement (Cooper et al., 2007).
Aggression towards self or others is defined as the exhibition of one or more of the following behaviors scored individually per occurrence: o Hitting: swinging the arm with an open hand or closed fist towards any part of a person’s body, including one’s own body, with enough force to make a sound or leave a mark, from a distance of 6 inches, or less, whether contact is made or not; does not include giving high fives, or when engaging in games which require such movements, such as

Initially, a targeted criterion for reduction is to reduce self-aggression to 2 times per day, and person directed aggression to 8 times per day across 5 consecutive days. Once Toby is able to achieve this goal a 20% reduction in behaviors will be instituted as the new criterion in order to reduce the display of aggression as well as increasing the time between intervals he will receive attention. This allows for fading the scheduled attention to what would be seen in the natural environment which increases the ongoing effectiveness once the program is
